"Some take pride in chariots, and some in horses, but our pride is in the name of the Lord our God." - Psalm 20:7 (NRSV)

In the language of today, Psalm 20:7 might read: Some trust in violence and take pride in technologies of war, and some in military power, but our trust is in the unfailing love and faithfulness of our saving God.

PEACE & GLOBAL SECURITY TRACK
Ecumenical Advocacy Days for Global Peace with Justice
March 7-10, 2008
Washington, DC

The Peace & Global Security track will consider practical experience with concrete strategies for human security without reliance on military power. Topics will include pulling back U.S. military presence abroad, strengthening capacity for conflict prevention and peacebuilding, ending practices of torture, nuclear nonproliferation in Iran, halting development of new nuclear weapons, working toward nuclear disarmament, and major shifts in federal budget priorities.

Together we will explore ways that Christians can organize in our communities to address issues related to peace and global security.

The weekend includes a lobby day on Capitol Hill where you will meet with your members of Congress or their staff. Pictured at the right is a rally in front of the Capitol Building held at Ecumenical Advocacy Days in 2005.

Ecumenical Advocacy Days
Ecumenical Advocacy Days is a movement of the ecumenical Christian community, and its recognized partners and allies, grounded in biblical witness and our shared traditions of justice, peace and the integrity of creation. Our goal, through worship, theological reflection and opportunities for learning and witness, is to strengthen our Christian voice and to mobilize for advocacy on a wide variety of U.S. domestic and international policy issues.

It is time to move beyond the misdirected strategies of the past few years and envision a new pathway to true human security - one which seeks not only the absence of tension, but the presence of justice (Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.). The 2008 Ecumenical Advocacy Days assembly will explore new visions of security in our homes, our neighborhoods and our world.

Schedule
Friday (March 7) - Sunday (March 9) will be comprised of eight tracks during which participants attend comprehensive issue briefings and advocacy training workshops in preparation for Lobby Day, and common times for ecumenical worship, denominational and regional networking, and challenging keynote addresses. Monday (March 10) is Lobby Day. Turn your vision into voice!

Location
Friday to Sunday sessions will be held across the Potomac River from downtown Washington, DC at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center; 5000 Seminary Road; Alexandria, Virginia, 22311. Monday's lobby day will take place on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
